FIRST, BREAK ALL THE RULES: What the World’s Greatest Managers do Differently
By Marcus Buckingham & Curt Coffman
This is one of the first books I read that challenged the traditional philosophy of personnel development. First, it talks about understanding the talents your organization requires and how to identify those talents in your people. Then, most importantly, it speaks to the art of providing people with the training, resources, coaching, and processes for them to successfully utilize their talents and assist the organization in meeting its goals. This is contrary to the conventional view of focusing resources on assisting people to overcome their challenges and weaknesses.
